electrical equipment of machines - Short Circuit Current Rating
The 6th Edition of EN 60204-1 Safety of machinery - Electrical equipment of machines - Part 1: General requirements has been adopted by some countries already and will bring some significant changes like the required verification of the SCCR Short-Circuit-Current-Rating. That sounds familiar if you are a switchboard builder for the North America market, but keep in mind that the supply conditions are certainly different for the European market and in New Zealand/Australia.
Important to know, a main contactor (or set of contactors) used as a safety device e.g. emergency stop, will become a SCCR relevant component and need to be rated adequately. Her is where most of the switchboard designs fail.
It is worth mentioning that the maintenance manual (e.g. for a machine) should cover the compulsory inspection and restoration of the protective function after a short circuit condition has occurred.
