In March 2020, the Mexican Senate received a proposal from the Mexican government for a new standardisation law. On its face, the proposal for a quality infrastructure law aims at the development of mandatory and voluntary Standards in Mexico. The proposal is also intended to come into compliance with commitments made in the U.S.–Mexico–Canada (USMCA) trade agreement, including on use of North American and other international Standards.
